The Iron Rail Bed

Fireplace Surrounds & Architectural Metalwork

Where Mountain Inspiration Meets the Art of Forged Steel

Inspired by the rugged beauty of the American West, the Mountain Crest Fireplace Surround transforms an ordinary fireplace into a remarkable architectural centerpiece.

Handcrafted by artist and metalworker Paul Shepherd of Forged Elegance, this distinctive installation showcases the depth, texture, and character that can only come from traditional steelworking techniques.

The centerpiece features a hand-forged steel fireplace front crowned by a sculpted mountain landscape, capturing the enduring beauty of the mountains in steel. Below, substantial double fireplace doors feature richly textured surfaces, decorative rivets, and carefully crafted hardware that reflect Paul's attention to detail.

Surrounding the fireplace, individually hand-forged steel tiles create a dramatic architectural backdrop. Each tile carries its own subtle variations in texture and finish, bringing warmth, dimension, and an unmistakable sense of craftsmanship to the installation.

The combination of sculptural artistry, rugged materials, and refined proportions makes this fireplace surround equally at home in a grand mountain lodge, a luxury ranch residence, or a sophisticated Western retreat.
